On the strength of just this one song I predict big things for this band ! Retro stoner blues rock ! Reminds me of Brimstone Coven ! Great well written song !

For the record I fucking hate buying single tracks that are not at least 15 minutes long. Also for the record this is fucking great and bodes well for the full e.p ......

lyrics
King Beyond
Far from the sun
there's a broken throne
I fell from grace
lie buried under stone
Hear the Jester laughing
while he holds the crown
Rust on my bones
no cure in this land
I feel unarmed
in a kingdom unmanned
Hear the Jester laughing
while he holds the crown
A king is just a broken man
in a broken land
Strange days have found me (carry me home)
all stepping stones thrown away (over mountain and sea)
The simple man I used to be (unburden me)
seems to be the remedy (I want to be)
King Beyond
Words of the wisemen
used to be the blindmans eyes
Now I'm just to blind to see
that I was crowned with lies
Way down the road
lies an ocean full of truth
So I walk down the line
along lost time and youth
Moving through the ashes behold what you once were
In the shades on the far side you were glaced by light
Longing for a nomans land a drifter can't be bound by charge
Lay down your crown!

Just saw them at RippleFest in Austin. Great live band!
Really like this Demo album- sounds great on vinyl. Slightly different sound to the vocals, which I liked quite a bit. Music fantastic. jamjamkiley
Good sound for a road trip !!! The stoner rock atmosphere as relaxed as driving on the open road while the wind blows your head clear through the car window. Stephan
Combining crooned murder ballads with raw, angsty hard rock hooks, Melbourne's The Ugly Kings are a wrecking crew well worth watching. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 15, 2021
OMG, late to the party but this is some of the best occult infused doom stoner tackle I've ever heard. Reference points include Sabbath (obvs), especially with the Ozzy-esque vocals but there's also the melodiousness of early Heep mixing with a more contemporary occult rock sound. It starts in the 70's and makes it to the present day. The riffs are huge but it's their way with a hook that elevates this from your average doom/stoner fare. Very wonderful indeed! egg-magoo
